Local Area Information

Middle Mayfield is a historic hamlet and is set on a quiet lane well back from the main road.  Brook Farm was built between 1580 and 1600, but is far from being the oldest property in an area with many historic buildings and being 200 years younger than the nearby Holm Farm.

Brook Farm Cottages are ideally placed for those seeking either an active break or just a few days away in the peaceful countryside.

Being on the edge of the Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands, there is no shortage of walking whether in the high peaks or renowned Dovedale and Manifold Valleys.  Natural beauty abounds in all directions.

Cyclists are well catered for whether on the easy offroad Tissington, High Peak and Manifold trails, challenging road climbs or Mountain Bike trails.  Carsington Water also has an 8.5 mile route around the reservoir, as well as a wide array of watersports.

Those interested in exploring historic market towns have Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and Leek to choose from, not to mention nearby Ashbourne, only 3 miles away with its wide array of independent shops and over 200 listed buildings.  Historic houses within easy driving distance include Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and the National Trust Museum of Childhood at Sudbury.

For thrill seekers, Alton Towers is 20 minutes away and there is even a wildlife park with Polar Bears less than 10 miles away that has proved a particular hit with our younger guests.

There are plenty of lovely country pubs in the area as well as some livelier establishments in Ashbourne town.  The nearest pub is just under 1 mile away and is walkable in fine weather.

The list could go on and the owner, Christine, is delighted to help guests with advice and recommendations to get the most out of their break.
